May 8, 2003, Vienna, VA— This week, Network Designs, Inc. (NDI), a systems integrator in Northern Virginia, demonstrated thermal imaging technology on The Digital Edge, NBC4 (Story, Video) and on Live on Fox 5, local television stations in the Washington Metro Area.
Network Designs demonstrated a dynamic real-time thermal imaging camera system that is able to measure subtle differences in temperature in humans. This non-invasive, fever-scanning equipment can be used to evaluate hundreds of people a minute, presenting facial images on a monitor that displays body temperatures in varying colors. The thermal camera, manufactured by Cantronic Systems, Inc., is ideal for the mass screening of fever-like symptoms—a key indicator of SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome)—in areas like airports, railway or subway stations, seaports, and other public facilities.
Network Designs, Inc. is currently installing Cantronic long-range daylight, active infrared, and thermal imaging cameras as part of a video security camera management system for the U.S. Navy Commander of U.S. Naval Forces Japan (CNFJ). This system is designed to increase shoreline, pier, and perimeter security of naval assets in the Pacific Region. NDI is using Cantronic cameras across twenty-four facilities in the region, transmitting digital information, via Cisco Systems wireless and wired communication circuits, to various networked, base-monitoring locations.
