Business Intelligence Developer

This position will be responsible for development of master data management, data warehousing, and reporting solutions within a federal aviation IT support team. This position will work with the department’s senior technical leads and project managers to understand business requirements, define solutions, and develop the solution in the appropriate technology. Technologies utilized within the department are relational databases (Oracle, SQL Server) and R and Tableau for Business Intelligence Reporting. Even though the employee will be working with a NDi project manager and senior developers, the employee will need to have strong communication skills and the ability to actively interact with customers. Often times the NDi development team will be working on multiple projects simultaneously and the developer will need to be in direct communication with the customer to demonstrate their work and be able to document direct feedback/guidance.


  • Ensure integrity and quality of data and solutions
  • Build data visualizations using R and Tableau based on business requirements like boxplots, geographic distribution, relational/graph plot, heatmap, histograms, and density plot
  • Proactively identify process improvement opportunities with a suggested plan for implementation
  • Test the dashboard and support deployment of R and Tableau products to the production environment
  • Create necessary documentation for all charts and dashboards
  • Familiarity with DevOps tools (Jira, Git, Jenkins, Ansible) and integration process
  • Experience working with source control systems, such as Git and Bitbucket
  • Knowledge of build tools like Maven and Gradle
  • Prepare periodic and ad hoc status reports for each assignment for the Development Manager and Project Manager
  • Consults with Quality Assurance and Business Analysts in the development and execution of test plans
  • Experience with Cloud and Big Data technologies

Technical Skills

  • Experience in Creating Executive/Summary level dashboards
  • Develop technical solutions utilizing relational database skills, development languages such as Java, .Net, and analytic/BI tools such as Tableau and R Studio
  • Write, interpret, and optimize complex queries working with large sets of data
  • Provide effective verbal and written communications with stakeholders at all levels in both technical and non-technical terms


  • Self-management of workload with ability to identify escalation needs to management
  • Extensive time and resource management skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Makes decisions within sphere of authority in a timely and independent fashion
  • Ability to process word problems into analytic terms, build hypothesis and test for results
  • Ability to generate written technical requirements and test plans
  • Proficiency using the Microsoft Office Suite and other management software to create dashboards and staffing analysis
  • Proficiency with Software Development Life Cycle (SLDC) Processes and Project Life Cycle Process.
  • Proficiency using Agile Methodology and tools such as JIRA, Confluence, and Slack
  • Familiarity and some proficiency of the following areas:
    • Open Stack Technologies
    • Software QA/QC
    • Governance/Governance Process Improvement

Education: A Bachelor’s of Science degree in Engineering, Math or Science Required.

Experience: Minimum 5+ years of experience
