Jr. Mid-level Communications Specialist

This individual will provide communications support to the Office of Finance and Management (AFN) which includes developing and executing strategic messaging campaigns, writing speeches, letters, newsletters, talking points, Congressional testimony, broadcast emails, annual reports, PowerPoints, and web content. Position will work on behalf of AFN to coordinate the delivery of Office of Communications (AOC) services and products (creative, writing, event support, etc.) and manage the use of AOC communications platforms (Focus FAA, Daily Broadcast, GovDelivery, Social Media, etc.). The Communications Specialist also delivers metrics/analytics in support of AFN on-going employee engagement and change management activities as well as communications campaign activities, and measures overall effectiveness of communications activities.

Technical Skills & Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the office through creation of executive-level communications, strategic messaging, creative production, and content development;

  • Synthesize complex program initiatives and policies to create messaging for employees, industry, stakeholders, and the flying public;

  • Drive conceptualization, design and development of marketing and branding of AFN and its directorates, as well as initiatives including event experiences, talking points, speeches, website content, video scripts, social media messaging, and other multi-media assets;

  • Ensure collateral is up-to-date and reflects the organizations current policies.

Minimum Education/Experience

5-8 years’ experience working in strategic communications, marketing & communications outreach, web communications, writing, editing, advertising, and/or publishing.


  • Excellent writing skills with demonstrated experience writing and editing executive level communications, articles, web content, speeches, marketing materials and communications plans.

  • Detail-oriented with strong copy editing skills.

  • Skilled in communications and marketing strategy with experience developing and managing projects in those areas.

  • A working knowledge of branding concepts and writing for the web.

  • A team player with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Must be able to work under pressure to meet deadlines and accept constructive criticism.


A 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major in Education, English, journalism, history, political science or equivalent degrees are required.

Experience: 5-8 years


Must be able to obtain a Public Trust Clearance
