Social Media Strategist

This individual will be responsible for implementing FAA’s Social Media strategy in order to increase online presence and further the FAA mission. The Social Media Strategist will work closely with public affairs, web management and creative services groups to develop engaging content and communications plans that leverage social media tools, techniques and messaging value for the agency.  Stays at the leading edge of social media trends; follows-up on leads; gains new followers and creates a positive image for the FAA through digital campaigns and customer service.

Technical Skills & Responsibilities

  • Supports the Social Media team with technical logistics and data reports of social media campaigns and daily postings across multiple social media channels, to include scheduling/calendar creation, content optimization, reviewing user comments/questions, measurement, etc. 

  • Performs data research for content development for social media posts, blog posts, new initiatives and presentations in a timely manner.

  • Analyzes and digests data from various analytical/monitoring tools (Meltwater, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, XML, Tableau, Boolean and Python) and influencer networks to support maintenance and growth of digital channels.

  • Proactively suggests digital media content collection through strategic email lists and XML generation to better communicate critical info to the public and key stakeholders in a timely fashion.

  • Works closely with the AOC teams to develop ways to best monitor and capture digital media information that is critical for FAA leadership.

  • Supports the Social Media team to strategize new and innovative ways to use social media to further the agency’s mission, goals and priorities.

  • Presents and reports findings to various audiences in an engaging and proactive ways.

  • This position may be asked to take on other duties as assigned during crises situations.

Minimum Education/Experience

  • 5 years of experience as a Social Media Strategist or similar role.

  • Excellent knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and other social media best practices.

  • Experience with audience research and reporting on social media metrics using a variety of analytical/monitoring tools.

  • Outstanding multitasking skills.

  • Great interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Excellent writing and editing skills with demonstrated experience writing web content.

  • A team player with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Must be comfortable with technical duties, a fast learner, self-starter, and possess a solid understanding of technical language, APIs and the FAA’s role in both the government and industry environments.


  • A Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Information Systems or equivalent degree. 3-5 years of experience as a Social Media Strategist or similar role.
